Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's natural for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
