Iconic Singer Barry Manilow Scheduled for a Procedure for Lung Cancer.

Barry Manilow has revealed that he received a diagnosis with cancer of the lung and will undergo surgery.

Spot Found in Initial Phase

The legendary 82-year-old artist, known for a string of beloved anthems from "I Write the Songs" established him as one of pop music’s most beloved performers, will have a procedure to remove part of his lung in an effort to combat the illness, which is at an early phase.

“For those who have been following, I recently endured six weeks of bronchitis followed by a recurrence of another five weeks.

“Even though I was past the infection and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my attentive medical team requested an MRI just to ensure that all was clear.

“The MRI detected a cancerous spot on my lung that must be removed. It’s sheer fortune (and a skilled doctor) that it was caught so early.”

Concert Delays

He has rescheduled a string of forthcoming concerts, but suggested he would be back on stage by mid-February for his enduring residency in Las Vegas.

He went on to say: “The medical team do not believe it has traveled and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. Chemo is not needed. No radiotherapy. Just chicken soup and classic TV.

“I’m counting the days until I return to my familiar venue for our Vegas run for our February love-themed shows.”

Decades in the Spotlight

Manilow is presently in his 16th year of a show on the Las Vegas Strip. The singer has spent decades in the public eye and revealed he is gay in 2017, after marrying his partner of many years, Garry Kief in secret in 2014.

The pair were in a clandestine partnership for in excess of 35 years. Recently, Manilow reflected on how important his partner had been to him during his ascent to stardom in the 1970s.

“During my rapid rise to fame, it was just crazy. And, you know, going back to an empty hotel room, you can get into a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re by yourself repeatedly,” he said.

“But I found my partner right around when it was taking off. And I was spared from having to go back to those isolated suites. I had somebody to cry with or to celebrate with.

“I desire that young people don’t have to go back to those hotel rooms by themselves, because you can make poor choices. I never did. But it was quite isolating until I met Garry. And then it was fun.”
