Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
