Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side only seven months after leading disrespectful taunts targeting their manager, Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has signed a deal with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His lengthy career with Leeds concluded through agreement this past summer.

One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading offensive chants regarding Chris Wilder amid the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift his beloved club away from the bottom places.

Previous Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager

Both men had history before Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

Everything seems to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.

The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Patrick.”

Latest Career Challenges

Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
