New information has come to light concerning the shocking demises of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were discovered at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence on Sunday.

The Alarm

According to a report referencing a confidential source, a massage therapist arriving for an session initially became concerned after not being able to enter the residence. The practitioner then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.

When she went into the home, Romy came upon her father's body. It is said she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Her roommate who had accompanied her contacted 911. Afterward, paramedics located Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Criminal Proceedings

The police have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of premeditated murder, including the alleged use of a deadly weapon, said to be a knife. He is now in custody and denied bail.

Disputed Reports

The person close to the family questioned several initial details. They said that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a detached unit on the grounds, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.

The source also disputed widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "concerned" about Nick's behavior in recent weeks. The source claimed the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."

This refutation also extends to descriptions of alleged "unpredictable" conduct by Nick at a event held by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. Although the source noted they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they maintained that suggestions of a "major confrontation" between the two were not correct.

Investigation Details

According to law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports noted the state of their bodies pointed to they had been dead for some hours.

Nick Reiner was apprehended at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, roughly 15 miles from the scene. He was set to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had not been medically cleared and would not be present until Wednesday or later.
