The former Liverpool manager says coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell that included continental glory and the Premier League crown since 1990, now holds roles overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title last season, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the idea that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he shared with the podcast host: “I stated I won't manage a different club on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions must arise to tempt his return to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to media briefings multiple times weekly or constant media duties each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role for the adjustments that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest following significant transfers, but he rubbished the idea that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, excellent performer. They have a strong well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences at the club. The forward died tragically in a vehicle collision alongside his brother recently.
“How do you replace such an individual? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I can’t imagine the team environment absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough about it. It was an incredible shock for all the boys too. No one within the club will ever use it to justify results though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Coping with it individually is challenging. Impossible.”
