The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple agonizing backstories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and YouTube.
