Israelis have come together across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The incident resulted in over 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most lethal day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel responded by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are seen as trustworthy by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our violent enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister remarked on that day.

He also promised to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the release of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will no longer present a risk to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled state remembrance events until 16 October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but events still occurred throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas attack was held in the coastal city. Arranged by the families themselves, it was aired on Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was observed around the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' delegations met in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of indirect talks to examine the provisions of the agreement.

A senior representative familiar with the negotiations revealed that an late session of negotiations started at evening in Egypt.

The representative said the morning session ended without significant progress, amid disagreements over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not resume combat after the opening period of the deal.

He added that the discussions are "difficult and have not yet produce any major advancement," but pointed out that intermediaries are making efforts to narrow the disparities between the two sides.

Critical Issues in Negotiations

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The trade of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance provision
  • Future administration of the area

Public Feeling

In the city's memorial area that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother endured the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were lost their lives and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - explained: "No location feels like home any longer and until each abducted person are released none of us will feel safe."

"After we see everybody home once more, we can feel relief again. Then we can start to rebuild," she continued.

Outside the prime minister's residence in the capital, people assembled to show their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel says 48 continue in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be living.

Demonstrator one woman explained: "We need do whatever arrangement needed for the captives to come back home. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be safe."

Research now regularly indicate that about the majority of Israelis prefer the conflict to finish in exchange for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of the gathering, those paying respects assembled to remember the victims.

From the site, the boom of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers reported the intense Israeli attacks persisted.

In Gaza City, attacks were noted in the early hours of that day in the west side district, sector and locality districts and in the east side area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the northwest.

"When the dusk arrives, the anxiety arrives with it," relocated urban resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli air strike previously, shared.

"We are terrified of the bombings. All the night we are sleeping together, clinging, especially my smallest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Constantly we check the news to see the situation. And I'm worried that this halt will not be completed and that the war will come back to us."

Health Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City said it had taken in the corpses of six people by the daytime, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of Khan Younis reported another two dead people had been brought there. An individual was lost his life by Israeli forces while attempting to get help to the south region, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
