The President Calls Loved Ones of Shot Military Soldiers to White House
Former President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Support
Community members assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist policing efforts in the capital.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the leader of her alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event led the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and halt granting visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
